By NASA mandate, Space Grant consortia can only offer K-12 teacher training programs in the category of pre-college activities. Keeping in mind New Jersey’s chronic shortage for science teachers and the astronomy standards imposed on the K-12 curriculum statewide, NJSGC aims to inspire, motivate, and improve the quality of New Jersy’s math and science teachers by means of teacher training, educational outreach and professional development programs.
The New Jersey Space Grant Consortium has provided small grants to teacher training organizations that specialize in science teacher training. We have primarily supported The New Jersey Astronomy Center for Education at Raritan Valley Community College, as well as other teacher training institutes in the past.
If you are part of an organization that provides teacher training for K-12 science teachers and are looking for funding for your activities, please contact us using the contact information on our home page. Please note that all our Pre-College programs require 100% match from the organization that is applying for our funds. For example, if you request funds from us to subsidize tuition for your teacher training programs, we can give you 50% of the tuition, with a school district or another organization paying the other 50% of the tuition.
