Melissa Conklin, Ethan Hayon, Andrew Isherwood, Michael Marnell, Katelyn McClung, Miklos Nyary and Professor Joseph S. Miles, recently returned from the annual Rock-SAT-C launch. They constructed a sounding rocket payload to test fiber optic fiber coated in graphene which is currently being found to have applications in both sensor as well as communications networks. Additionally, they conducted a second experiment on the bacteria Shewanella Oneidensis. The team’s goal was to determine the feasibility of sending both materials into space for future use. They transported the payload to Wallops Island, Virginia and launched it approximately 75 miles into space on Thursday June 25th, 2015. See video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIbJUx0Gxs4
