NYCRI 2012

The New York City Research Initiative (NYCRI) Research Summit was held Thursday, August 2nd, 2012, in the Great Hall, inside Shepard Hall, at City College, in New York City. Seven students conducted summer research on robotics at Rutgers University and Stevens Institute of Technology. They were mentored by Prof. Haim Baruh and Prof. Joseph S. Miles. Each of the teams built their own robots, wrote research papers on the results of their findings, and made several oral presentations.

Students and professors gathered at Rutgers University on April 27, 2012 for the Annual NJSGC Academic Year Fellowship Poster Session and viewed posters of and learned about students' research.

Rocket 2012

NJSGC and sounding rocket launch 2012

Joe Miles, Ethan Hayon, Mark Siembab and Mike Giglia recently returned from the Rock-SAT-C program. They worked on a sounding rocket payload to measure atmospheric gasses over the last year, transported the payload to Wallops Island, Virginia and launched it approximately 75 miles into space on Thursday June 21st, 2012.  They are currently analyzing the data.

The NJSGC Annual Summer Research Conference was held on Thursday, August 9, 2012, at the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT) Auditorium at Rutgers University, 100 Brett Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854. Eight summer research fellows who conducted research at NJSGC affiliate institutions, as well as three students whose research was supported by NJSGC, participated in the conference and made presentations to faculty, parents, and invited guests. At the conclusion of the presentations a poster session was held for all attendees.

2011 Mid-Atlantic Region Space Grant Directors Meeting

Representatives from New Jersey, Pennsylvannia, Maryland, Delaware, Washington DC, West Virginia and Virginia met at the Nassau Inn in Princeton, New Jersey.  Speakers ranged from overviews of state successes in space grant projects to complementary programs such as New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium to Environmental Science in the Classroom.

RISE 2010 Summer Research Symposium

RiSE (Research in Science and Engineering) is an undergraduate summer research program that is run by Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of N.J.,  to advance diversity in science, math, and engineering. Each year, about 20 minority undergraduate students in STEM fields nationwide are selected from a competitive pool and and invited to Rutgers to spend a summer involved in research, tutoring, enrichment and preparation for graduate study.
